Hi. I’m Ron Baker Jr. I’ve been playing music and performing since 1980 when my mom first brought me to the Warren County municipal center, a senior center near our home in upstate NY where she worked. This was only a few months after I started on the violin at age 10 and I wasn’t very good but I quickly realized how powerful music was, and how music just seemed to make people happy.

I fell in love with music and the violin and excelled in music throughout my school years, but as many do, I went a little crazy for a few years after high school. I tried college, but after 1 year I dropped out, became a hippie, picked up a guitar and never looked back (although I did finally return to college almost 20 years later). My great loves and passions are my wife of 30 years, Rebecca, our two adult daughters Emily and Annalise, and the rest of our family and friends. A close second is playing music and entertaining folks wherever and whenever I can.

In the mid 90’s, I started an acoustic based Christian rock band. We played mostly original tunes and contemporary Christian music, and performed as a 3-piece rock band with a sound along the lines of the Eagles, the Grateful Dead, and Green Day combined. Just a few months after we formed we followed an opportunity and relocated to Sarasota, Florida, spending the next few years touring up and down the East coast of the US, playing and singing in churches, concert halls, beaches and festivals between 100-125 times per year.

In 2002 I left music full-time to go back to raise a family, and after several years in the trades I moved into the IT world for 15 years. I continued to play music here and there in church and occasionally at local nursing homes, but also did fun dad things like coaching softball and not so fun things like working a career with all the hours it takes to live up to those expectations.

When the COVID lockdown first happened I decided to devote myself to improving my guitar skills and polishing things up, which really helped me cope with the pandemic and make the best of a bad situation. In 2021 I spent over 1200 hours working on expanding my skill set and musical knowledge, as well as expanding my repertoire from about 175 classic rock, blues, pop and country tunes to over 350. I continue to get up each morning to work on the my musical chops before going about my other business. I have put together a solid Pro PA system and its versatility and quality allows me to play for indoor and outdoor venues of most sizes that are coming to hear an acoustic solo guy. I love bringing the gift of music and I am blessed and privileged to do it.

If you’re interested, please reach out to me. I’d love to be a part of your next event.
